While overall NFT volume has fallen off a cliff since January, Ethereum Name Service (ENS) domain sales have soared over the past week. ENS is now the most highly traded Ethereum-based collection on OpenSea, with a trading volume surpassing 2,305 ETH or $3.76 million; a 43% week-over-week increase. 🔗🌐

The success of ENS has coincided with the sales volumes of the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Cryptopunks falling by 55% and 62% respectively! 💔Elsewhere, some new research estimates the size of the Sports NFT Market at $2.6 billion in 2022 and forecasts it to reach 41.6 billion by 2032. This is a much-needed good sign, considering the fact that the Ethereum blockchain has seen its NFT volume drop by 25% to $74 million during the past week.

LG Electronics launches NFT marketplace called ‘LG Art Labs’

South Korean giant LG has launched its own new NFT marketplace, dubbed “LG Art Labs,”. It’s currently available to all US LG television owners running webOS 5.0.

The marketplace is accessible from the LG home screen and enables people to buy, sell, and trade NFTs from the comfort of their homes. Transactions on LG Art Labs are handled by Wallypto, LG’s in-app crypto wallet developed by the Hedera network last September.

LG chose to partner with Hedera over other blockchain companies due to its presence on its governing council for several years.

Meta to open 10 Metaverse Campuses

Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is helping universities get their own virtual reality campuses online. The company will be opening 10 virtual campuses as part of its Immersive Learning project, which seeks to take education to virtual reality environments. In partnership with Victoryxr, a virtual reality education startup, Meta will invest $150 million in this initiative.

Meta Quest headsets will be donated to these organizations for students to be able to be included in the courses. One of the objectives of Meta’s Immersive Learning project is to increase the access of students to these technologies by partnering with organizations and universities. Part of the $150 million investment Meta is making serves to deliver headsets in partnership with Victoryxr.

The company has also helped universities pay for the design and construction of these spaces, which can cost up to $50,000 for a five to seven-building campus.

FIFA to launch NFT platform for football fans

With the 2022 World Cup just months away, FIFA, soccer’s global governing body, has announced it will launch an NFT platform for soccer-themed digital collectibles.

The platform, FIFA+ Collect, is set to launch later this month, and will feature “affordable, inclusive, and accessible” NFTs that depict notable soccer moments, art, and imagery, according to FIFA. As the World Cup unfolds, moments from the marquee global soccer tournament may also be converted into digital collectibles. FIFA+ Collect will run on the Algorand blockchain, a proof-of-stake Ethereum and Solana alternative.

“Just like sports memorabilia and stickers, this is an accessible opportunity for fans around the world to engage with their favourite players, moments and more on new platforms,” said FIFA’s Chief Business Officer Romy Gai, in a statement.
